CLASSIC EDUCATIONAL FILMS (KINO US IMPORT)

OUT OF PRINT SET OF DVDS

Some of the most interesting films of the 20th century American classroom are not those that teach skills in math, language or science, but those that explore delicate topics of social skills, drug use, sexual development, and juvenile delinquency-because, let's face it, even well-educated and disciplined kids occasionally make bad choices. These were topics that parents, and sometimes even teachers, were uncomfortable discussing with the kids, and so the 16mm projector was wheeled into the classroom to cast light upon such issues. Some films manage to be poignant and insightful, while others are simply painful to watch, as they bungle their attempts to communicate to the future men, women & troubled teens of their time.

This 6 volume collection of Classic Educational Shorts, from the A/V Geeks Film Library, presents a comprehensive collection of 89 Educational shorts (almost 20hours of material) beginning in the immediate postwar environement and running through to the mid 1980s. In their attempts to educate, inform and entertain, these films provide considerable insightto the changing hopes and fears of a nation as it moved from the conservative, prosperous postwar years into the social upheaval of the 1960s and beyond.

TELEVISION’S LOST CLASSICS - VOLUME 2 (US IMPORT - REGION FREE)

This is a special series of lost “PILOT” EPISODES from the Golden Age of TV.

1) "Case of the Sure Thing" introduced the series Racket Squad, which lasted for 3 seasons and was nominated for 2 Primetime Emmys. An interesting side-note, reportedly, this program may have inspired parts of the 1973 hit movie, "The Sting". It was first broadcast on CBS on Thursday, June 7, 1951, and starred Reed Hadley as Captain Braddock and was written by Arthur Orloff.

2) "Cool and Lam, " a light-hearted, detective yarn featuring characters first created by Erle Stanley Gardner. Bertha Cool runs a detective agency and Donald Lam is her junior partner, hence "Cool and Lam". Directed by Jacques Tourneur!

3) "The Life of Riley, " which starred Lon Chaney, Jr. As Chester Riley! This stand-alone episode was produced in 1948 but by the time the first season went into full production in 1949, Chaney had been replaced by no less than Jackie Gleason!

4) "Nero Wolfe, " based on characters created by Rex Stout, is another one-off production. Kurt Kasznar is Nero Wolfe, with future mega-star, William Shatner, co-starring. The story deals with the mysterious death (coincidently) of a rocket scientist. Included on the disc is a bonus CBS Blooper Reel for the long-running "Gunsmoke" series, hosted by James Arness.
